Waltair

Waltair is one of the oldest names of a town/city by the sea.Only after leaving behind twenty two years of uneventful birth, adolescence full of mirth, wasted flush of youth and love's labour lost did i realise how much it was inside my being. There are two kinds of people in this world , in today's digital world i suppose generalisations can only be binary ,ones who have lived by the sea and ones who have not.The sea and the plains , the coast and the inland , water and earth.

I feel the current more than ever when in huge inland cities.Man for all his sublime intellect and growing mastery over nature can never replace it.Standing in front of the sea and watching it reaffirms life. The ebb and flow are vital reiterations of the same life force that exists in us and in nature.Airconditioning, automobiles, multiplexes, plushly upholstered skyscrapers and anything we have made do not have this intrinsic quality in them.

In the madness that life in megacities has become one eternally feels as if one is in transition and then after another day of waking on the wrong side of the bed the senses sing a song of unbearable longing , for the sound of the gush ,the sight of the rush ,the scent and the splash.

    Love this one..
I could spend all my life just sitting by the beach listening to the sound of waves.. but then have to earn my bread , butter and barley water :-) hence me will spend 90% of the best years of my life just doing things to keep me alive and to be able to afford what i long for ..

but the lure of the 10% is worth all this..

    wht say u?

you are from waltair/vizag? yes, i agree with you that the city has a charm and a hold that even occasional visitors like me can feel. and the sea.. living by the sea is a rare pleasure. spent four months, sitting on the promontory wall on the road to bhimli, near kailasagiri, watching the sea change into a million shades of blue.. most of the sunshine hours. sunshine- it's a word you understood better when you stand by the sea.

yes its my hometown..though its urbanisation is inevitable and can be foreseen in the near future....i selfishly dont want it to change...no excess traffic, coffee days or multiplexes... want it to be the quaint little town that i grew up in.....ill be a very very nostalgic old man if i live long enough to be called old....may be in my head i already am one...

...We all feel nostalgic and blame our inertia for reluctance to change the concept of change that bound to implant brick ladden walls in place of lack lustre moist socked rocks...We all r like a small kids adamant not to lose his toy but wants to grow old to fly planes...this conflict of minds Vs heart is envisaged in the macro way in the transformation of our child hood paradises of languid towns to choked cities...Vizag is no exception...Move on...

I don't believe in the dichotomy of mind Vs heart , if only the divison was so easy...and if it is possible it is the most uninteresting thing that can ever happen...and hence "move on" is simplistic....

    Hi Tony,

Read your "Resilient Bombay: The epitome of self-denial and subservience". Nice work, but why the hell look at it in such a pessimistic and dark way. Does it really matter anymore. Anyway, buddy what are you upto nowadays. Sent you a mail long time ago, but no reply. Are you really there Scotty?
